Real estate brokers and other denizens of the residential property world are feeling the pain of the stalled home purchase market across the United States. In their creative quest to find new brokerage and marketing opportunities, real estate professionals are looking with interest at the apparently robust business of “Holiday Rentals by Owners. Housing stock is high, value has plummeted, and joblessness is increasing, more and more people are wanting to sell property fast
. Home equity lines have dried up as collateral property values dip, and even those prudent folks who kept debt low and property maintenance high are receptive to ways to transform their illiquid real estate into cash flow. According to a Reuters “market watch” dated March 2008, the holiday rental industry saw a 17.4% revenue increase in 2007. Holiday makers are quickly discovering that renting a holiday home often provides a more spacious, personal and economic lodging experience when compared to hotels. Primary residences, not just second homes, are on the holiday market, while their owners camp out in the mountains or move in with the relatives while their homes are let.

Medical negligence leads to the loss of thousands of lives and the illness of millions of people every year. Egregious medical misconduct such as amputating the wrong leg, the kind of thing that makes the headlines, is rare. Most frequent is a seemingly small thing–failure of medical personnel to wash their hands or use alcohol sanitizers. Recently one surgical wing had to quarantine four of its patient rooms. At least one health care worker had failed to sanitize, and MRSA–methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus–had spread from one patient throughout the floor. All people have staph bacteria on their bodies all the time, but usually it is community-acquired staph, which rarely causes infection. But HA-MRSA–hospital-acquired MRSA–can enter the body through a surgical wound or through the site of an IV or catheter. As the patient is already weakened and possibly immune-compromised, it can cause infections leading to loss of limbs or life. It may begin eating skin or flesh or even lung tissue. The latter kills quickly, but not quickly enough to save the patient the agony of death by slow suffocation. No one who is capable of this kind of carelessness should work in the health-care field.

This past Christmas, after pondering what to buy myself for a present, I decided to replace my ten year old mattress. After perusing various stores and information online, I purchased the Sealy Meditation Mattress with a firm cushion. Sealy has a well known reputation for mattresses so I knew this would be durable mattress. This particular mattress is able to detect your body weight and provide the appropriate amount of support that you needed. In essence, this mattress tailors to your personal needs. This mattress was approved by orthopedic surgeons because of its unique features. Your lower back is given extra support from a unique foam inlay. The foam in this mattress also is designed to alleviate pressure placed on certain pressure points. According to the manufacturer, this is supposed to eliminate 95% of them. I would have to agree with them. I don’t find myself tossing and turning at night to readjust my body because of painful pressure points. I purchased this mattress from a local retailer who had to order it from the manufacturer. I have been extremely happy with this mattress and am enjoying my restful nights!

Every night I sleep on a cloud. Well, it’s actually memory foam but I have had several dreams of interactions on a cloud so I can only guess that my subconscious thinks that is where I am. It has been four months since I acquired my luxurious new bed with matching memory foam pillow and I have to testify, it has changed my life. I was in a car accident over a year ago and had physical therapy for chronic neck and back pain. When the physical therapy was over, I continued with therapeutic stretching and yoga but some mornings I was still feeling worn out. A good night’s sleep is priceless, and it turns out, highly rejuvenating. My back pain has dissipated significantly and I no longer have neck pain – which is usually coupled with a searing migraine so this contributes positively to my overall quality of life. I am grateful for the advent of such an invention. Thank you to whoever designed and manufactured memory foam; it gave me freedom to live better.
